November Edition

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

This month the children have been focusing on all the amazing fall changes as well as the importance of being thankful for family, friends, food and the world around them.

The teachers have been diligently planning lessons that allow the children to explore the above themes through math, science, literacy, art and social studies. I am sure that your little ones have been surprising you with their knowledge of deciduous vs evergreen trees and why leaves change color. Have they graphed favorite leaf colors with you? made leaf patterns? or told you what happens to trees in the fall? If not, take a moment to indulge them by engaging in one of the aforementioned activities. I promise you will have a lot of fun!

Since Thanksgiving is just about here the children will really be talking about family and togetherness. The teachers will be reading books that explain tradition and the act of giving. Please take some time to discuss your own family traditions with your child. Each child will be given the opportunity to share what is "special" within his/her own family.

On behalf of the Faculty, Board and myself I want to extend a very Happy, Safe, Healthy and FUN Thanksgiving to all of you. We are all most appreciative of all that you do for our school community.

Enjoy,

Ms. Joanie

Pre K

The Pre K class will be celebrating Thanksgiving through the famous story "Stone Soup." I think that we all can learn a lesson from this activity. Ms. Sara is teaching the children the importance of working together as a team to create something so wonderful that ALL can be proud of. I believe that Bethpage Nursery School is just like that pot of "Stone Soup." Without the cooperative efforts of the parents, children, board and faculty we are simply a pot of boiling water. When we work together and all have input, our pot becomes "the best stone soup ever to be made!"

Nursery and Toddler Separation

The Nursery and Toddler classes will celebrate Thanksgiving with special snacks. The teachers will let you know what they need.

Goody Bags

Due to safety and allergy concerns I am banning goody bags. The only goody bags that will be sent home from school are those made by the teachers and/or class moms. Please DO NOT send in any goody bags for future events. The teachers have been given strict instructions to return them to you. Thank you for your cooperation.

Healthful Donations

I sent out a letter 2 weeks ago regarding "Healthful Donations" of paper towels, tissues, wipes, lysol, clorox, disinfecting wipes and other cleaners. This collection will be ongoing throughout the year. This is NOT mandatory. If you are able to help I am most appreciative.

Illness

PLEASE keep your children home if they are not feeling well. I know that it is sometimes difficult to tell if your child is sick or just tired in the morning. If there is even a slight doubt about your child's health please err on the side of caution and take a sick day. We are trying to keep our school as germ free as is possible. If your child has a fever please keep him/her home from school for 24 hours after a fever breaks--he/she must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or ibuprofen.

Fundraising

Danielle Tesler has sent out information on the "Winter Wonderland Pancake Breakfast." Please reserve your seating ASAP. All are welcome to attend. She also sent out info regarding the "Drop and Shop." Last year I had the good fortune of hanging out with the children while their parents went out to prepare for the upcoming holidays. We played games, made crafts and shared a fun snack in a safe environment. STRESS FREE for MOM and DAD!!!! Hope to see your little one(s).

Welcome

A very warm welcome to Isabella Pace and her family. Isabella joined Ms. Christine's Nursery class at the beginning of the month.

Tuition

Tuition is due at the beginning of each month. Please refer to your calendar for exact due dates. Any tuition not paid on time will incur the late fee that is highlighted in your signed membership agreement. Since we are a not for profit we rely heavily on the timeliness of your payment. THANK YOU for your anticipated cooperation.

Registration

We will begin registration for the 2010-2011 school year in January. Please spread the word amongst your friends and family.

Open Board Position

At this time we are in need of a financial secretary to record tuition and fees. This person will also be responsible for making bank deposits.

Grants

Does anyone enjoy looking for preschool grants? If so, please see me. I am looking for Math and Science grants as well as something that will help us renovate the playground.

Two of Us

We have openings in our Wednesday Two of Class with Ms. Tammy. If you or a friend are interested in trying a free class let me know. I would also like to open a Friday class beginning in January.

Baby Play

Do you have little ones between 12-18 months? Are you looking for a safe place to play and meet other parents? If so, I would like to open a playgroup at BNS. The class will be facilitated by a staff member who will set themes and activities that are age appropriate for 12-18month olds. ($45 per month) Possible times and days:

Mondays: 12:45-1:45 or 2:00-3:00(lower room)

Tuesdays: 12:00-1:00 (main room)

Wednesdays: 11:45-12:45 (lower room)

Thursdays: 12:00-1:00 (lower room)

Fridays: 11:30-12:30 (lower room)

Saturday: 9:15-10:15 (main room)

K-Readiness

The K-Readiness class is having a great time with Ms. Tammy. There are 10 children in the class. At this time I have chosen to close this class to new students. If there is any new interest in a K Readiness Class, I will open a Thursday afternoon class. ($65 per month)

Nursery Enrichment

Ms. Christine is having a lot of fun with her little group on Monday mornings. She has room for 6 more children. In this class Ms. Christine expands on lessons from the T/TH nursery class. ($80 per month)

My Schedule

My sessions have been reduced from 15 sessions biweekly to 12 sessions biweekly. This means that I am in the building 15 hours per week and working outside of the building 3 hours per week. I do have flexibility with my schedule and my schedule does change when I have to attend meetings. My schedule is approximately as follows:

Monday: 8:50-12:10

Tuesday:8:50-1:45

Wednesday: 8:50-2:50

Thursday: 8:50-12:10

Friday: out of the building

In the event that I am scheduled for more meetings or events beyond what I am contracted to work the board has approved compensation time. I will let the teachers and Tracie Schappert aware of any changes in my schedule. Please note that I am almost always available via email or phone to address any of your school needs.
