Notes From the Director

I would like to take a moment to write about participation. Over the past two plus months I have witnessed, first hand, the fantastic spirit of parent participation at Bethpage Nursery School. Committee chairs and their committees are constantly amazing me with their time and talents. The willingness and great energy to take care of our children, staff and building has been wonderful. The faculty and I are grateful to all of you. Your efforts are a big part of why we LOVE our jobs at Bethpage Cooperative Nursery School.
So the next time you are called upon by the Board, your committee, a teacher or me remember:

Participating Parents don't get paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!"

Welcome!

I am very excited to announce that we opened our doors this month for:

Ms. Anna D'Agostino and her Terrific "Two of Us" class

A warm BNS welcome to:

Kevin Bury and his Mommy Jean
Kyle Gallego and his Mommy Joanne
Sophia Maciel and her Mommy Sandra
Haley Flaherty and her Daddy John

We have room for 4 more little ones between 18months and 2 1/2 years old and their favorite adult.

General Membership Meeting

Our membership meeting was held on October 7, 2008 at 8PM. Thank you to all who were able to join us. I hope that you enjoyed Dr. Shelton's presentation on "Parenting Stress: Surviving the Early Childhood Years" as much as the faculty and I did. After the meeting I spoke with many people who felt "invigorated" by Dr. Shelton's workshop.
We hope to have Dr. Shelton return during the school year. For those of you who were unable to attend, I left copies of Dr. Shelton's handout in your child's mailbox.

Parking

I appreciate the consideration that has been extended to our Lexington Avenue neighbors during arrival and dismissal. The neighbors have expressed their gratitude.
Reminder: All faculty members are to park on the driveway, in front of the school or on Nibbe. Parents of the day are to park in front of the school or on Nibbe.

Scholastic Books

Your first book order is in. Please see Kathy Schenck (Pre K Mom) if you have any questions or concerns.

Fundraising

This year's fundraisers have gotten off to a fantastic start. Danielle Tesler has informed me that so far we have raised close to $2000.00. Great job everyone!

Special Thanks

The Fall festival was a huge success despite the rain and clouds! Many thanks to all the people who made the day so special, Danielle Tesler, Lisa Chappell, Tracie and Joe Schappert,
Jeanie Clyne, Nancy Burgos, Lisa Syznal, Laurie Khan, Heather Hodkinson, and Debbie Goldblatt for working the event.
Thanks to all the talented Moms, Dads, and Grandparents who baked all the delicious goodies for the bake sale.
Thanks to all the friends, neighbors, parents, students and alumni for supporting us at the festival.
SUPER THANKS!!!!! to our Pre K class and Ms. Mary for planting the beautiful mums in front of our school.

Halloween at the Nursery School

Each class will be celebrating Halloween next week. Children are allowed to wear their costumes to school. Please do not send your child to school with a mask.
Each class will participate in a Halloween parade. Your child's teacher and class parent will provide you with details.
Please review Halloween safety procedures with your child.

Upcoming Programs

Bethpage Nursery School is expanding programs to include late afternoon, early evening and weekend "Two of Us" classes to accommodate working parents and their toddlers.
We are also opening a "Kindergarten Readiness" class in January. This class will focus on literacy. I will be teaching the class on Tuesday afternoons from 12:30-2:30. Feel free to call or email me for more information.
